"Staff were great but clearly stretched"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I took an asthma attack and had to wait 6 hours to be seen by a doctor and was left on a trolley during this time. The nurses were great during this time- Senior Nurse on was particularly great and made everyone feel comfortable.

The staff are clearly stretched beyond their limit due to Vale of Leven being closed and this needs to be reviewed. I was pleased with my treatment at all times.

I also ended up again back in A&E more recently due to breathing problems. Another 6 hour wait. Again staff were great but clearly stretched.

Well done to all the nurses, doctors, porters and other staff in the a& e department and I hope that something will be done to ensure you are able to manage time better.

Dear SJ86

Unfortunately our hospitals have been very busy and ED teams are reporting an increase in the number of patients attending for treatment.

Staff tell us that part of this rise is due to more patients presenting with respiratory infections and norovirus.

The staff are disappointed that that a number of our patients at the RAH waited longer than we would have hoped due to the high level of demand and apologise that you waited 6 hours in the department.

I will ensure that your comments of support are passed to the team involved in your care as they strive at all times to deliver a high standard of care.

I am pleased to advise that the Vale of Leven Hospital is open with patients attending the Minor Injuries,medical assessment unit and GP out of hours services.
