"The most amazing but most nerve wracking day of our lives"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital / Accident and emergency Queen Alexandra Hospital / Mary Rose Maternity Centre

(as the patient),

Hiya, I just wanted to share my feedback from my time at QA hospital in Portsmouth.

I originally went into A&E with abdominal pain, this was believed to be gallstones. SAU staff were amazing, but during a CT scan they discovered I was pregnant.

I was sent over to the maternity ward when they conducted a scan and informed myself and my partner I was infact further gone than first believed. Completely unknown to myself I was 33 weeks pregnant with a baby boy, with not one single indicator. From then everything happened so fast, after taking blood and checking my blood pressure I was diagnosed with having hellp syndrome - I have since become aware how uncommon and dangerous this is but all the staff kept me calm and delivered my baby that evening.

My beautiful boy was born weighing 4lb 14oz. I thank everyone who’s path I crossed that day as the only cure to hellp syndrome is to deliver the baby. If the nurses, midwives and surgeons didn’t realise this when they did, myself and baby may not have been here to tell the tale. It was the most amazing but most nerve wracking day of our lives to suddenly be parents with no time to prepare but everyone who cared for me and all the team in the nicu unit made sure we were included in everything and answered every single question we threw at them.

I could not be more thankful and will forever praise QA hospital for my experience there.

Wow what an amazing lovely story, thank you so much for sharing it with us. I can only imagine how you felt and to end up with a lovely baby boy.

I am so pleased for you and on the behalf of the Hospital I wish you all the very best.

I will be sure and pass your lovely message to the Women and Children department. They will be delighted to hear such positive comments.
