"Disgusted"

About: Shakespeare Medical Practice

Recently visited the walk in doctors in Leeds due to swelling on the side of my face and a lot of pain, i had had ear infections before and the pain in my jaw and ear was of the same strength.

When entering the room i explained to the doctor how i thought i had an ear infection and explained my symptoms, they then briefly looked in my ears and told me there was no infection there- fair enough. However the doctor then did not go on to look into my problems further, they more or less shoo'd me out of the door telling me it was a dental problem and "an abscess will probably need draining", as ive never had anything wrong with my teeth before i found this very distressing. After this i went on to the dental hospital in Leeds who were a lot more attentive and tried to see me as soon as they could, however with my problem not being a dental problem at all after 3 hours of checks and x rays they sent me on my way with antibiotics.

After the swelling spread to the other side of my face and down my neck i then signed up to Leeds Student Medical Practice where they gave me an emergency same day appointment and finally told me i had mumps whom prescribed me with strong painkillers. If only the first surgery would have been as caring and attentive i would have been caused a lot less stress and pain.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Please accept my sincere apologies that you had a poor experience whilst using our services. I would like to explain that where a clinician assesses a patient and feels the presentation is dental in nature, they must refer to a Dentist. This is to ensure that best care possible is provided by the right professional. I appreciate in your case that this turned out to be a viral illness however, mumps can often manifest initially as dental type pain. I am sorry if this was not explained clearly to you at the time. Thanks again for sharing your feedback, we welcome this as it allows us to improve the care and services we provide.
