"Oesophageal stent fitting"

About: Warrington Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

Having had an endoscopy before I wasn't looking forward to a second one where a stent had to be fitted to aid my swallowing. I needn't have worried as the team were so caring, supportive and professional at the start of the process. The consultant was so detailed in her explanation of the process and highly skilled in the execution of it. I was cared for in the recovery room with full explanation of what to expect. As I was sedated for the procedure I was kept in overnight for observation on ward A4 where the staff were exceptional in their care level. I witnessed their compassion and relentless care for all the patients in the ward. They were obviously under pressure and never seem to stop but would always find time for the more needy patients without ever seeming stressed. The approach, attitude and support is integral, I think, to a patient's recovery and the whole care package and the level of all the staff involved during my stay was extremely impressive.
