I was operated on by the podiatric surgery team for a bunion 3 weeks ago. Having visited the clinic to discuss the procedure a few months before, and also having sought a few other opinions, I decided to take the plunge. My first impressions of the clinic were very positive.
The pre operative checks undertaken a month before the operation were a little regimented and it was difficult to remember some of the information provided as I felt a little stressed at the time, although I appreciate there is a lot to run through in a short period of time. Maybe a more detailed handout of the questions would help.
I can't speak highly enough of the team who looked after me on the dreaded day. They were incredibly supportive and kind and I felt extremely well cared for during the afternoon. The clinic had a professional and relaxed atmosphere from the moment I walked into reception.
During the operation the team around me really helped take my mind off the procedure which made a huge difference.
The call I receieved on the morning following the operation was much appreciated and both follow up appointements have been really efficient and friendly.
The advice I have received for post operative care, both from staff and in the reading matter, seems to be consistent and hopefully effective in the long run. I was provided with some post op simple excercises. The only other thing that would be useful for the period following the 2 week check is to understand roughly how long it should take to be able to walk more confidently on the affected foot, more to prevent an impatient patient from doing too much!
I can't wait to experience the long term results of the operation and I hope, if they are successful, to have my other foot operated on next year. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Holme Valley Memorial Clinic and feel very lucky to have been able to use their Services.
