What I liked
My husband, was admitted as an Emergency in the middle of the night of 13th Jan, with chest pains. We were staying with relatives at the time and have no previous experience of this hospital. The Ambulancemen were prompt, efficient and joked just enough to help my husband and I to relax. This was important given the circumstances.
Although A&E and later, MAU, were very busy, my husband was given excellent attention. The teams were efficient, knowledgeable and very understanding. As his condition was something staff deal with frequently and they were so busy, we could have perhaps understood if they had rushed through his care. But this was not the case. Everything was patiently explained with plenty of opportunity for us to ask questions. The Staff were thorough and my husband was studiously monitored the whole time. The results of his blood tests after the first twelve hours were taken at the correct time and the results were back quickly.
Nor did they forget me, his anxious Carer. Each procedure was explained to me and like the Ambulancemen, they added just enough gentle humour to help defuse what was for us, a very stressful situation.
We thank the caring staff from the bottom of our hearts and trust these thanks do get passed on to A&E and M.A.U. Staff.

What could be improved
More space in the waiting area!
Perhaps a few chairs that tip back just a little instead of being ridgedly upright. Those accompanying patients often sit for hours especially through the night - at times when the body feels it should be in bed! It was 3 days before my stiff neck, caused by sitting so uncomfortably, finally wore off.AttentiveEmergencyOpening hoursPatient careProfessionalismBlood testWaiting Areas
"Would be very relaxed about either of us..."
