"I felt very uncomfortable and under..."

About: Kent & Sussex Hospital

What could be improved

I was seen by the consultant, in a tiny cubicle with a bed and a chair (there was hardly room for my husband to sit). The consultant spent the entire time standing and leaning on the door frame! After the initial examination, I thought that he would take us to his office for a discussion, but after a very brief consultation he shook my hand and disappeared, leaving us in the cubicle unsure whether we should leave or not. As no-one came back we then left as well.

I felt very uncomfortable during the consultation because the Consultant was standing by the door the whole time. I felt under pressure to make a quick decision to allow the consultant to get away. I was unable to ask all the questions I would have liked about my potential operation and I have no idea what will be involved/how long I will be in hospital/how long it will take to recover/get back to work/etc, etc, etc.

I work in the NHS and know that there are time constraints etc. but, when making a big decision about having an operation, patients should be able to feel at ease and able to ask questions instead of being made to feel as if they are taking up valuable time.Consultants
