I had been suffering from depression for a long time (most of my adult life) and have had various therapies and periods on anti-depressants with mixed results. I was currently on anti-depressants and had been for about 5 years.
When I saw my GP earlier this year I wasn't looking, or expecting, therapy - merely to renew my prescription. As I was having suicidal thoughts my GP said he was going to refer me to the mental health team. I didn't feel that there was any way out of how I felt, except suicide. I didn't have any great expectations from the referral, but I had nothing to lose.
As soon as I started the sessions I could see this was different, though it was difficult to talk about my problems - Steve seemed to ask the right questions and see that there was a lot buried inside.
It has been life changing, with the support from Steve, I have been able to see my problems more clearly and make some life changing decisions that will have a long term effect. Without the therapy I would not have been able to see what was needed or had the courage to make the changes.
