"The care my mum has received so far"

About: Bassetlaw Hospital / Rehabilitation

(as a relative),

My 78 yr old mum was taken to Bassetlaw Hospital with a suspected stroke when my brother found her on the floor at 6am.

Countless x-rays and tests confirmed no stroke, but a nasty urine infection and she was discharged the same day. During her time at the hospital, her mobility was also checked. Within hours of being at home, the re-ablement team had provided a commode, a walking frame, a rail attached to her bed and rails on the bath and they are sorting a bath board for her to use. They couldn't attach what they wanted for security around the toilet because it wasn't suitable for mum's floor, but had it have been suitable, it would also have been fitted.

My sister was in attendance for this part of my mum's care, I arrived at 9pm to stay for the weekend. The day after her discharge, the care team arrived early in the morning to  help mum wash and dress and to attend to any other needs she might have had. They advised me about mum vomiting on Friday night, possible cause was a reaction to the antibiotics for the urine infection, suggesting I contact 111.

During the day, another carer (a tissue viability expert during the day, twilight carer out of hours) came out to assess mum and her pressure areas from being on the floor for so long on Friday morning. As she left, the evening carers came round. They helped mum wash and dress into her night clothes. This was repeated the next day.

I absolutely cannot fault the care mum has received, it has been nothing short of outstanding. Every single person has been so lovely, very engaging and genuinely caring. The speed in which things happened on that first day was astonishing. I have no doubt that this would not have been achieved in such a short period of time where I live.
