"Having spent two nights on D1 and three..."

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

What I liked

Having spent two nights on D1 and three nights on D3, I cannot begin to express my appreciation to the staff at Stepping Hill. I was treated both quickly and efficiently by the staff and was amazed at the long hours, hard work and dedication to the job. Everywhere was exceptionally clean and I even enjoyed the food (of which there was a varied selection). I would also like to thank the doctor who managed to get my fifth canula in (my veins do not like needles entering them). This doctor admitted me and kept me at ease at all times whilst detailing my injury and treatment-they then returned to put a canula in the night before my discharge and manged to discuss my injury. While I hold nurses in the highest esteem, my general opinion of doctors is that they are disinterested in the patient and seem to "know it all". If more doctors were of an attitude expressed by the doctor who treated me, I do believe there would be a lot more happy patients out there!

What could be improved

There seemed to be a shortage of pillows when I changed wards. I was told by nursing staff that the laundry was sent to Blackpool and they often ran short at weekends. I understand there are monetary constrictions but maybe it is false economy to send laundry out when it could be processed closer to home.

Anything else?

I cannot thank the staff enough for their help and support. Having watched the nurses in action I truly believe that nursing is a vocation and not just a job.
