The care agency ran us at the weekend to say our elderly relative in Scotland was unwell, probably due to an infection and needed to see a doctor. We rang the doctor's surgery but it was closed and the message said to ring 111.
We rang 111, but because we live in London and were not with our relative they would not put us through to the local 111 service and we were not able to get a doctor to visit.
We know that infections in elderly people can cause rapid deterioration and can be life threatening, but we have no way of preventing this.
It should be possible to access the 111 service in another area if this is necessary.
