I broke my wrist in a football goal and needed to get an operation (pins put in my arm) in order to realign my bone. I was admitted to Ninewells hospital in Dundee and therefore travelled from St Andrews for both my operation and follow up appointments. I found the staff at the hospital very helpful and caring and they made sure I knew what was happening.
The environment was reasonably comfortable, although there was no one my own age in my ward, they were all elderly women.
My appointments were all quick and easy and I didn’t have to wait for too long. However, they did clash with my university timetable, and could not be changed, which was a bit of an inconvenience.
Unfortunately, the bus service from St. Andrews to nine wells has gone out of service so it was a bit of a hassle getting to the hospital, especially with my arm in a cast.
The reception in A and E was reasonably efficient: I had to wait about 2 hours. However, the doctor did get me mixed up with another patient and was not very reassuring whilst telling me that I required an operation.
I was very impressed with the care in the ward at the hospital (ward 17). They were reassuring, helpful and professional. Huge thanks to the doctors and theatre staff, who were exceptional.
