I visited West Cornwall Hospital on a monday evening as I was suffering with a painful abcess in my groin that antibiotics had not cleared. I've suffered with them for years and have had 6 operations to have them removed all at West Cornwall with no problem. However that night there was no surgical doctor so I was put on the daycase for the following morning at Treliske. I was told nil by mouth and to arrive by 9am. I arrived at the SRU at 8:50am the following morning to be told I'd have a wait as no beds were available. I was sent to a waiting room where my partner had to sit on the floor as the chairs were all full. The waiting room was boiling hot and after an hour of waiting I asked if I could go outside (I am 29 weeks pregnant so it was very uncomfortable). I was told to go outside for twenty mintues and then I'd be seen. We came back after 20 minutes and continued to wait. It was four hours later at 1pm when a nurse came into the room to take my blood pressure/temperture and urine sample. The nurse took my urine sample and dissappeared. I prompted the nurses five times that they had not taken my bp and temp and nothing ever came of it. I was in agony with a fever and never once offered pain killers even in tears. By 2:30pm I was starving I hadn't eaten 15 hours and I was very dizzy I have low bp and am heavily pregnant. I eventually saw a registrar at 3pm who told me they might not operate as I'm pregnant (well done you knew this the whole time!). After another 2 hours at 5pm I was told in half an hour I could have it done under local aneasthetic. Another 2 hours passed before I eventually had the 10 minute proceedure. I hadn't eaten for nearly 24hours so nearly passed out. The only thing swift was my discharge, still high on pain killers I was given anti-biotics. I asked for dressings and pain killers but was told to use super absorbent kitchen roll!!!! What?!?? I bought my own dressings and spent days in pain. Next time I'll wait the extra day for WCH.
