"World class service - superb ENT department"

About: Lister Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

Just home after 24 hours in the care of Lister hospital.

My 2 year old thought it would be interesting to see what would happen if he stuck an arts and crafts pompom up his nose, which ultimately ended up requiring general aesthetic.

From the moment we were stepped in to the A&E department, we were seen promptly and always kept up to date on who we were waiting for next and why.

When removal of the foreign body wasn't successful and we knew we were staying, we were moved to the Bluebell ward where we were very well looked after for the night, providing a bed for myself which was unexpected.

We made use of the playroom during the morning whilst waiting for a theatre to be free. The playroom was mind-blowing, absolutely fantastic.

Super clean, catered for every possible age of child, from baby through to teenager, and was spacious.

We even got a visit from Oscar the PAT dog in the morning, much to everyone's delight.

The procedure itself was quick and handled very well, and want to say a massive thank you to our ENT doctor for their determination to remove the foreign body and to the wonderful student nurse who guided us throughout the day right through to discharge.

To give a balanced view, the only constructive feedback I can give is in relation to the facilities and a minor point on cleanliness.

We arrived at 15:30 and at 17:30 I wanted to get a drink and a bite to eat for my little one, who had not eaten since breakfast. All the cafes were shut, and so was the restaurant.

There was nowhere, other than the shop, I could buy a healthy meal for myself.

My child was provided with a sandwich but I had to make do with a processed snack.

Why would you close a cafe so early?

I'm sure the demand is there - there were 3 other sets of people who were questioning why the cafe was shut so early on that one night alone.

And finally when in children's A&E, a child was sick on the floor / their parent, and a custom wipe of the floor was given with an absorbent pad.

But for the 90 minutes after we were there, it wasn't cleaned....

I'm assuming they were waiting for the cleaners, but they should have been there sooner.

Thanks for the feedback and we do hope that son is feeling better now - we've passed your feedback on to the teams who looked after you both.

With regard to the other points raised, we have shared your comments with the Trust's catering and facilities teams.
