Having arrived at A&E following a phone call to 111 I had to wait several hours before I was triaged - this was far too long for the condition I was in and the triage nurse did acknowledge that and apologised. Although it was agreed I should be admitted overnight and a drip was administered, a bed on a ward was unable to be found for me. However, the staff did bring a proper bed to A&E for me. I very much appreciated the trouble they went to as by then it was the middle of a supposedly 'normal' midweek night and the A&E was ridiculously busy - to the point of seeming almost overwhelmed.
Thereafter the care I received was exemplary. The Ophthalmology consultants I saw over a period of several months were thorough, thoughtful and compassionate.
"Excellent ophthalmic care"
