"Taking my blood in A+E"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

Hi I came to hospital with head pains. I have an existing eventually terminal illness. I'm used to having bloods taken on a very regular basis. My veins get scarred due to it. It seemed that the doctor used the largest gauge needle they could lay their hands on even though I told them the one that's always used on me. Then moved the needle around in my vein not finding blood. Like a child in large boots I would say. They couldn't get it out of a second vein. Then they got a syringe - with another large gauge needle and went back in the same vein. They even used the surgical wipe to stop my blood leaking out. Finally they used a large lump of tissue to cover one vein. Taping over that and taking straight over the other vein that was still leaking slightly. So when I took the tape off later that one bled again.

I don't have many veins left which are comfortable for bloods. That easily last "good" one. I do hope it settles as right now it's useless! Thank you Boston hospital. I shall tell all I know to head home. Get treated and then head back. Or just not holiday in Lincs.  I was wanting to move there. I think we will look somewhere else. I can't afford to lose veins in my condition. An my friends are all mostly in similar conditions - hence my advice to them. Shame, place looked lovely.
