"My mother-in-law's fall"

About: Poole General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

(as a relative),

We received a call from the company that provides a personal alarm service for my mother-in-law letting us know that she had fallen and that paramedics has been called out to assist. When my wife and I got to her flat at 8: 35am the paramedics were already there and were checking to see how she had been injured, they thought she had probably dislocated her hip. The two paramedics were wonderful with her, very caring and thorough in their assessment.

At 9: 20 they took my mother-in-law to Poole hospital where she was given a full range of tests and scans and was admitted to B2 ward in less than 4 hours.

My wife and I were just overawed by the excellent service. Thanks you to the paramedics and to Poole Hospital for their care.

Dear Volanspx59,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I hope your mother-in-law is recovering well.

It is always rewarding to hear stories of how our staff are delivering care and support to patients and those around them when they need it most.

We would be happy to share your story with the ambulance staff involved in your mother-in-law's care, however, to do so we will need some specific information. If you would like us to do this, please may I ask you to contact us on either plaudits@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 453 831 and a member of the Patient Engagement Team will be happy to help you further.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

Kind regards,

Sharifa

Dear Volanspx59,

I was sorry to hear of your mother-in-law's fall but I am very pleased to hear that the alarm system, the Ambulance Service and Poole Hospital were all able to work so well together to make sure that she received the care and the checks that she needed.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to share your experience. There is a lot of negative press about health services these days, which is often the exception rather than the rule. When people like you take the trouble to recount your positive experience, it helps to redress the balance and reassure members of the public.

Like the Ambulance Service we would like to share your story with the staff who cared for your mother-in-law in the Emergency Department. If you would like us to pass on your thanks, please would you be good enough to telephone the Patient Experience Team on 01202 448499 to give us your mother-in-law's name and date of birth.

All best wishes,

The Patient Experience Team

Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
