My son was diagnosed with bilateral cleft lip and palate at my 20 week scan.
I was worried about the next stages operations etc (as I had previous experience) I needn't have worried the Edinburgh surgeon and her team offered the best care and support from this day on. We were always prepared for every stage of my sons ops and development. We will always be very grateful to this team for their time and expertise. However at a time of great anxiety due to timing of bone graft ops our edinburgh team has slowly started to disappear and we haven't even been offered the opportunity to meet with any staff in Glasgow! We as parents are meant to trust that the Glasgow cleft team can offer the same service and continuity of care for our son. This is most definitely not the case so far. We have no contact details for any member of staff in Glasgow team. We are used to phoning our cleft nurses or our Surgeon secretary and getting a very quick response and get the reassurance and support we needed at any given time. My sons needs haven't got any less and yet we still have no relevant information about our so called better equipped service in Glasgow! ! If it wasn't for the limited staff in Edinburgh cleft team offering the excellent service they always have we truly wonder if anyone would remember our son actually exists and is still under the NHS care! Dr mehendale from Edinburgh is amazing unfortunately can't say what Glasgow team is like as not one person from Glasgow has been intouch to introduce themselves
"Cleft service from excellent Edinburgh service moved to Glasgow"
