I was unwell and phoned NHS24 for advice on Monday night, I was given an appointment immediately for out of hours GP. The GP practice staff at Douglas street community clinic were excellent and informative and sent me straight to A&E as they felt that was what was required.
I was then taken up to ward 4 at Hairmyres hospital and advised I would need minor surgery as soon as possible, by this time it was 1am. All of the staff were friendly, kind and caring.
After surgery in the morning I was then transferred to ward 6 and my nurse was Ian. I was told that I would likely be discharged the next day but due to an exam that I was sitting the next day I was desperate to be discharged as soon as possible. It was around 6pm at night and I was advised it would be unlikely I would get home but Ian said he would try his hardest to see what could be done. He used his experience and persuasion skills to get the doctor to come and give me the ok and I was able to leave that night. Not only did Ian do this but he also ensured I left with all the right medication, bandages and information I needed.
I felt he went over and above his role and duties and was just an amazing person. He was friendly, always joking and made me feel calmer about the whole situation. What impressed me most was that I feel he genuinely cared about me and about me making the exam. I can't put in to words how grateful I am to him and all the other staff who helped me in my journey.
