"Poor Visit to A&E :("

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

My first visit to A&E was for chest pains and a swollen breast - I was happy to wait, compliant and polite. When asked to remove piercings for x-rays I attempted to do so, but when my blood pressure dropped so low I almost passed out, I had hospital staff (not a doctor or a nurse) actually shout at me for not taking them out; mind that I was more concerned about imminently passing out and when I told him as much, he stormed off threatening to get the doctor instead.

Mind that I said I had gone into hospital with a swollen breast and chest pains, when the doctor arrived he only inspected my breast upon me telling him why I was in. He 'guessed' (quotations) that I was in for a chest infection after listening to my breathing through a stethoscope and this was the only check done until I suggested he check my breast. Literally seemed like he had no idea why I was there despite having paramedic and triage notes in hand.

When my blood tests and urine samples had finally been analysed and I was about to be discharged, the doctor despite me asking, never actually explained the results of any of these tests nor gave me a diagnosis so I was left in agony going home with antibiotics and only guess-work from the paramedics as to the fact it could be an infection.

I'm seriously disappointed - I know the NHS is understaffed and I appreciate each and every person in the service, but as a 21 year old woman using A&E for the first time, terrified only to be shouted at during a black-out and left confused without proper communication from my doctor, I'm a little upset. My boyfriend who accompanied me to the hospital was also witness to the aggressive behaviour from staff and I'm upset that I was treated in such a way when I was so ill.
