"Short hospital stay following admission through A & E"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Having injured my toes in an "at home" accident, I was quickly assessed and admitted onto a ward so that treatment could be given. This resulted in an overnight stay, surgery and discharge. This whole process brought me into direct contact with at least a dozen medical and ancillary professionals, all of whom showed true skill and care at whatever level they worked at.

My only negative observation was limited to an obvious lack of clerical & administrative support dedicated to the clinicians responsible for my care. The sheer amount of documented support necessary was staggering and for the burden to be placed on the clinicians is one of the most inefficient processes I have ever witnessed. It is even more surprising how much has to be done with pen and paper at the bedside. Are we really in the age of technical wizardry. Evidently not in the NHS.

Dear adrofo,

Thank you very much for this feedback, I am delighted that you are doing well and would like to acknowledge the fantastic team that we have here in Grantham.

I will share your feedback with them accordingly.

We are certainly moving forward with technology, but documentation is so important to get care episodes correct and ensure a smooth patient journey.

Please be assured technology is moving forward, but we are ever mindful following the recent cyber-attacks.

Teresa Shepherd
