Went in for a total Hysterectomy, and went home a day later.
I was still attached to a catheter and feeling absolutely angry and confused. What should of been a 90 minute Hysterectomy operation turned into a 5 hour operation to repair my bladder that was cut during surgery. My poor husband, who was not allowed to wait at the hospital during my operation, phoned 8 times was given no information on the "mistake" that was made.
Of course I knew nothing about any of this until the next day when about 6 surgeons/doctors appeared by my bed to tell me about my bladder injury, not that I was well enough to take it all in. Anyway I was told by the unsympathetic nurses/doctors that the sooner I was up and walking the sooner I could go home, so I was left to get out of bed unattended with my catheter and my drainage bag still attached and take myself off for a wander.
When I was sent home within the next hour I had no clue how to change my urine bag, no clue how to order more bags and no clue if my bladder was even going to heal. To say I was upset and confused is an understatement. This was on the Sunderland Day care centre and I have to say that I feel the staff have no bedside manner. Disgusting is the only way to describe my nightmare hysterectomy.
