The care I received on pre natal and delivery was nothing short of first class but the postnatal ward was a disgrace I was left feeling like a failure after not being able to breast feed with one midwife even telling me that I was giving up on my child. It took 24 hrs to be offered pain relieve despite a difficult delivery and when I and my baby were finally left to get some rest

I was told on wakening that we had missed tea. We had also missed breakfast as nobody told us where to get meals

Please accept our apologies for the poor service that you received whilst on the postnatal ward in Treliske.

Following this feedback, the ward staff are devising a ward information sheet which will provide information on the routine of the ward, explaining where and what time meals are served and the pattern of the medicines round. Where a meal has been missed, sandwiches and tea/toast are always available. We do try to offer women regular pain relief throughout the day but not every woman will need this at the time of the drug round so we find most women receive their pain relief ‘on demand’ throughout the day or night. The ward information sheet will prompt women to feel able to ask for pain relief at any time.

The staff receive regular up dated training for breast feeding and we will share the concerns that you have raised at this training as a learning point for the staff.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and we will use this to improve our service.
