About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Ophthalmology Wycombe Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

June, 2016 I was referred by my optician as an emergency to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, as I had sudden blurring of vision in my Right Eye, although I had only recently had my annul eye test at the optician which as usual showed no change in vision

Next day in June 2016 I was seen, by a young female optician but nothing could be found wrong with my eyes. Was referred to Dr

July 2016 Dr at Stoke mandeville Hspt with a Cyst on my eye, was told I would be put on a waiting list, if not approved would have to apeal, or go privately

( I had enquired about this as good vision was very important to my job )

August 2016 Letter for a referral to Wycombe Hosptial for photograph of the cyst on my eye

Sept 2016 saw same Dr as a Private Patient but the Cyst had dispersed early that morning, no surgery required, just a very quick eye test which required reading Spectacles A full payment was given.

Sept 2016 sight test by different opticians ( no Specs ) Right Eye still blurred, a letter was sent by the optician to my GP to be referred back Stoke Mandeville Hospital ASAP.

Oct 2016 I called Stoke Mandeville Hospital to find out where I was on the list and was told I was not on a list, there as nothing wrong with my eyes.

October 2016 called Drs surgery but the phone kept cutting out

October Spoke to a different Dr than the one I usually see. This Dr said they had spoken with the Dr I saw originally said he ' HAD REMOVED'! ! the Cyst from my eyelid and there was nothing wrong with my sight.

I replied what about the referral regarding the Macular Haemorrhage behind one eye. No comment was made, they just told me to go to Stoke Mandeville as an emergency referral from my Optician, and I would be seen straight away, as they were really busy that evening and didn't have the equipment to check my eyes.

Went straight to Stoke Mandeville, waited for about 2hours, saw a lovely kind nurse who gave me a quick sight test then me an appointment for first thing in the morning, only this time my daughter came with me as support/ backup.

Oct 2016 Was given a thorough eye examination by a very kind young Dr. He couldn't find anything wrong with my eyes said it may be something else, he spoke to the consultant. Both Dr and Consultant agreed my eyes were not seeing well and suggested a Field test.

Another eye test from optician at Stoke Mandeville, and will try to find out why my sight had suddenly worsened..I was advised not to drive.

Oct 2016 called spoke to someone ( very nice and helpful ) Re Field test. Was told l was on a list to see another consultant to check to see if l needed a Field Test, but will have to wait as there are others in front of me, but l should call later in the week to see if a date had been arranged for me

Oct 2016 called, spoke to someone else, she will look into it and will call me back

Nov 2016 letter arrived with apt for High Wycombe Hospital but I misread it as being for Stoke Mandeville and turned up ther about 20 min befor time, so had to get a bus back to Wycombe hospital where the optician kindly waited for me

Nov 2016 apt with a new doctor who asked me 'why had l come to see him. By this time I was so tired and confused my daughter took over and updated him on all that had happened,

I was sent down for another field Test no change.

the doctor seemed unsure of what to do next. First he couldn't find my notes then said he couldn't understand what the optician had written on my notes? . Then he decided to try Prisms in my specs which he would refer me to Wycombe hospital for, and I was to return in January 2017 to see if I still had a problem.

Dec 2016 saw A pleasant young lady who tested my eyes, but could find no problem with the muscles, she would refer me for a blood test at Stoke Mandeville, as it may be physical and I was to return later if there was still a problem.

January 2017 I had decided I had wasted enough of the NHS time and returned to my Dr who called Stoke Mandeville but couldn't get through as they were concerned at my health in general.

February 2017 I had lost over 2 stone was extremely tired always hungry, had become forgetful and obviously not well.

Dr referred me to the Endocrinologist at High Wycombe.

May 2017 was referred to see another new doctor and was seen by a very sweet man he sent me to the Pathology? to pick up 2 bottles to give a urine sample over 24 hours.... which I returned but I got it wrong.

so a few weeks ago he called to explain and I thought said he would send a letter to me to take to Pathology, so nothing has since happened.

I don't feel well, seem to be getting increasingly tired, and fall asleep too often, always hungry, constantly eating, becoming stressed at daft things and very forgetful. have lost over 2 stone. often get frequent bouts of Diahorrea.

I am not the person I was a year ago, I feel frail and so much older and guilty at wasting so much NHS time and money. Had to give up my job as it was becoming too difficult and stressful. I felt I wasn't being the best as I used to be. I just want to be well and useful and make the most of the time I have

Thankyou
