"Removal of breast lump"

About: St James's University Hospital / Breast surgery

6 weeks ago I attended the outpatients breast clinic and was told that I required surgery to remove a benign tumour. I had had the tumour biopsied two weeks earlier, which thankfully showed that I had a giant fibroadenoma and nothing sinister.

I was pleasantly surprised to have the surgery scheduled there and then for the 19th June, as I had expected a long wait on a waiting list.

I arrived at J23 yesterday and after an initial miscommunication about the theatre lists being changed and my surgery delayed until the afternoon, I was settled in and comfortable. I was given a glass of water since my surgery was delayed, which was a lifesaver as it was the hottest day of the year so far.

Every member of staff I met- from ward housekeeper, nurses, hcas, theatre nurses, PACU nurses, porters, anaesthetist and surgeons- was lovely, friendly and approachable. I felt my needs were met, and pain relief was tailored to my requirements so that today I feel fit and well with no pain.

I was home by 5pm yesterday, feeling very satisfied with the service I received, and cannot thank everyone I met enough. You're all diamonds and I'm happy and relieve to have been sorted within 6 weeks. Thank you.
