"Concern re head pain behind left eye"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Neurology

I saw a neurology consultant at spire but as an NHS patient in January 2017. I started with an usual pressure pain behind my left eye in September and it can make me hold my head till it passes. It's severe on coughing sneezing any raised pressure and any exercise/ exertion and it makes me hold my head in agony while it passes and then the inside of my head has a bruised feeling. When I saw the consultant in January without what I would consider to be a holistic health assessment the consultant who had a truly appalling bedside manner dismissed my worry. In my family history on both sides there have been venous problems my grandfather had a brain aneurysm that killed him and a 29 year old uncle died suddenly with a problem in his brain.and a malformation. I'm a single parent of six children one of whom I had severe health problems and disabilities and I work full time. I am afraid this could be something serious and I felt that instead of working backwards from a consideration of possible life threatening causes the consultant was too quick to dismiss and prescribed amytryptyline which did not work . These could be warning signs that have not been given due regard. I am too busy a person and too positive a person to be someone who goes to the doctor unnecessarily but instead I felt dismissed as though I was a hypochondriac . I have to say I should not have left in tears and the doctor should be reprimanded for their bedside manner. The problem may be minor but can be suggestive of brain aneurysms etc and I feel ignored. I warned my family that should something adverse happen to me as a consequence of the NHS failing in its duty of care to seek legal advice. It's damning of the nature of NHS care today that they don't look at potential severe causes first. I pushed my GP for an MRI and am due to have one but in my view and with my family history of Arnold chairi and aneurysm/ cerebral haemorrhage that they should have worked from worst case backwards.

I feel extremely let down and worried as this has worsened in severity to the point that the pain when it comes makes me adopt a fetal position with my head in my hands. All I wanted was to be treated with respect, dignity and compassion and this was no where to be seen .
