"Excellent care in ward 2"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Infectious Diseases Unit

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward 2 in Monklands Hospital with suspected meningitis, it was quite late at night when I arrived on the ward, I was greeted by a wonderful nurse named Grace who went above and beyond to get me settled into a room and put my mind at ease as I was worried about what tests I had to get. Grace explained to me what the plan would be for the following day regarding tests and procedures and that she would be checking on me every 2 hours during the night as I had told her how anxious I was, I was given a buzzer to press and told to never hesitate to use it if I was in pain or needed anything, pain was a big issue that night but nurse Grace made sure I was given the pain killers prescribed to me, very promptly when I asked for them and thankfully it kept me comfortable till the morning. I must also give a special mention to another nurse named Jane (light blue uniform) both these ladies made a very difficult time for me so much more bearable, from being transferred so late at night to making sure I was kept comfortable till the morning and taking time to explain to me about my suspected condition. Nurses like these are a credit to the NHS and worth their weight in gold. Thankfully I never had meningitis, I had a viral illness, and was discharged 2 days later. All in all the care in ward 2 is second to none and the nursing staff who I came in contact with were wonderful

Dear LM1983,

I am glad to hear you have recovered and would like to thank you for your valued feedback. I have passed your comments on to Sister McManus, she is delighted that you had such a good experience in ward 2 and will take great pleasure in sharing your comments with her team. We strive to provide the highest standard of care and it is so encouraging for staff to know that they are getting it right

Warmest Regards

June
