I visited my GP IN September 2016. She immediately referred me for a surgical consultation. Initially, I was told this would be on a 9 week cycle, but this time frame kept changing. Finally, in March 2017, I had my consultation at the New Victoria Hospital.
The following day I was told I'd been added to the general surgery waiting list and my procedure would be carried out no later than the beginning of June in like with the legal guarantee. Now I'm told it is impossible to meet the guarantee before October because of a lack of resources. Along the way I also discovered that despite committing to accept a cancellation on 48 hour notice, this information had not been added to my record.
What is the point of a guarantee if it can be breached with impunity? To me, the legal guarantee looks little more than a gimmick that actually limits patient rights.
My heart bleeds for the clinicians, but someone has to be held responsible for this sort of incompetence.
