"Appointment changes on a whim"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Neurology

How is it that appointments arranged weeks and sometimes months previously are changed either forward or back without consultation.

My job is hanging by a thread due to my illness and only a small firm I work for.

I have to take holiday to ensure I can get the day off and then-out the blue-i am expected to mess my life and boss around with hardly any notice-its not on.

The last excuse was the consultant was now taking 'study leave'.

What the heck is that code for? 3 hospitals have done this to us now all in the months from May to August.

We don't all have the luxury of a cushy job where we can call the shots.

In the real world we have to toe the line despite what ever the law says or we lose our jobs.

Is this practice really because its holiday time.

Stick to the plan guys and be realistic.

My wife has to accompany me due to my condition-6 days of our annual holiday wasted-not even able to salvage a long weekend out of it because the consultants have mid-week clinics.

What a shambles and very disrespectful. and a shameful waste of everyones time from booking staff upwards.

Dear 'Anonymous'

I’m really sorry to read that you are experiencing ongoing changes with your appointments. I appreciate this is a frustrating time for you and your wife, especially with the added impact of your work commitments. We are aware that unfortunately at times this can be an issue for our patients. The Outpatients Administration team and the Service Managers teams are working really closely together to limit appointments being cancelled at short notice.

I would welcome the opportunity to look into your appointment further, and please contact me directly via email if you wish to do so at: appointments@tst.nhs.uk

Regards,

Lorretta Mcapline

Outpatients Service Manager
