"Short stay, big impression"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Wards 6c & 6d

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted to the hospital on Friday due to problems she was having with her heart, we were soon out of the receiving unit and taken upstairs to a ward, Ward 6C to be exact. Where do we start? Every member of staff went above and beyond and my mum says they couldn't do enough for her, even the porter who took her up stairs lifted her spirits for the first time that day. One negative would be that the lifts we went to the ward in seemed a bit dirty but it's a busy place.

She would like me to thank everyone, the auxiliary nurse Caroline who was so cheerful and kept my mum smiling, the nurse who was very nice and helped explain what was happening with my mums condition and had plenty of time for us to ask questions (we can't remember her name, sorry! ), the catering person who made her a very nice cup of tea, the domestic George who was very thorough and kept my mums room spotless and of course the doctor who told her she could go home just in time for our holiday! To anyone we've missed we're sorry, there were so many new faces and names at the weekend but you were all fantastic and you are all a credit to the NHS, thank you to everyone in 6C and the QEUH.

What could be improved? The lift was dirty and the window blinds broken.

Dear Lindak

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am pleased to read about the care your mum received on ward 6C in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I am also pleased to read that as a family you were kept well informed about your mum's care and that the staff were able to keep her smiling and were able to lift her spirits, at what I am sure was a very worrying time for all of you.

I will share your kind words and comments with the staff that you have mentioned. They will all be delighted to receive your feedback.

I hope that your mum is now doing well.

Best wishes
Lisa

Dear Lindak,

Many thanks for the lovely comments you have made about the staff involved in your Mother's care and who contributed to the positive experience that was had. I have forwarded your comment to our Domestic, Catering and Portering Lead so they can share your nice sentiments with their relevant staff.

I am sorry that the lift that you used "seemed a bit dirty". All lifts are cleaned at night time, and then checked periodically through the day, with remedial actions taken if required. Your comment has been shared with the Domestic Lead and she will reiterate the need to increase checks with her Supervisors.

Unfortunately I can confirm that a number of window blinds across the hospital became damaged due to operator error. The level of damage sustained across the site was extensive therefore the manufacturer’s staff are currently on site undertaking a full programme of replacement, of the window blind opening and closing mechanism. This programme of works is due to conclude by the end of June 2017.

I hope you Mother enjoyed her holiday.

Best wishes

Mandy Machell, Deputy Site Facilities Manager – Business
