"Emergency catheter insertion after urine blockage"

About: New Cross Hospital / Accident and emergency

Taken into A and E after total urine blockage and escalation of serious circumstances. Prompt (and probably over hurried) action in fitting device. When minor anaesthetic wore of, i was convulsed with pain from the inner tip of my penis which was well beyond anything I have ever experienced in my near 65 years existence existence on this planet. The tip of my Penis had stupidly high levels of sensitivity and pain as a result which would not abate. This totally compromised my efforts to recover, It was not even possible to sit on the toilet as the pain thus experienced was too great. Any pull at all on the catheter stem at point of entry was unbearable. I doubt that this result from such a standard but delicate procedure is the right one under any circumstances and has added to the anguish of now awaiting process for possible prostate cancer.

The handover when discharged was perfunctory at best and hopeless at worse. The staff seemed stretched beyond belief but surely the line is crossed when their actions cause actual bodily harm to their patients. I am pleased that my further treatment should be at County Hospital for who I maintain the greatest respect in terms of their care and comittment

My parents were both nurses at New Cross up to the end of the sixties and the place was exemplary - What happened?
