"Overall they were amazingly organised"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Acute Medical Unit (AMU)

(as a relative),

Following my dad being admitted into hospital following discomfort in his chest; due to him having heart disease it was imperative that he got attention as quickly as possible. The wait time in A&E was long but knowing that he was getting the care he required was reassuring.

He was then taken to AMU East, where there was a further wait and the staff seemed to be absolutely rushed off their feet. Yet the nurses went out of their way to assure my Dad and I of the process and making sure any concerns were acknowledged and dealt with.

After about a 6 and half hour wait all in and my Dad was finally able to get a bed, a nurse who unfortunately did not get her name asked if we had anything to eat when advising that we hadn't eaten for a number of hours. She took time even though she was busy to find some sandwiches, tea and biscuits. Also what was amazing was as I was so tired I could not drive home she went to enquire if there was a room I could get on the ward to be able to res,t but unfortunatley there wasn't. I was able to leave my Dad and find a place to stay in Dundee knowing he was safe, cared for and any anxieties would be alleviated.

When I phoned the next day the Charge Nurse was so helpful when I made enquiries.

What could have been done better well I would say that the nurses needed more support on a staff level.

Overall they were amazingly organised.

Dear JCMac,

many thanks for taking the time to post your feedback on Care Opinion.

Whilst your dad had waits in our service I am reassured that you knew he was getting the care he needed and your concerns were addressed during this time. I am pleased that your needs as carers/family members were considered and you were given sandwiches and drinks. It is unfortunate that the relative's room was not available for you to stay over on this occasion.

I do hope your dad is making a good recovery.

Thank you again,

Jane Brown

Head of Nursing, Urgent care.
