I had an ectopic pregnancy, and an emergency admission at 4am in terrible pain. they took FIVE goes to get a line in me to give me pain relief, my arm was black for a week. then because i had been vomiting (due to internal bleeding) they put me in a separate room but the window would not shut! It was freezing. a junior doctor couldnt even be bothered to flush out the canula herself and the nurse told me she was lazy. another doctor tried to scan me but could not see anything so they took me over the road in a wheelchair then left me in a lobby alone as the lift was broken, i nearly fainted and fell out of the chair. Then i was wheeled back into the street and to the Ward. I made a fuss and a consultant came and scanned me and said Yes you have an ectopic pregnancy and set me for surgery that afternoon (a laparoscopy) something i had been telling them since i arrived 8 hours before, as I had classic symptoms... the anaesthetist was vile to me, basically treating me as though i was a piece of meat and rolling his eyes when i said that he was hurting me, this is not a man who should be allowed near vulnerable people just about to have possibly life saving surgery. They would not even tell me who would be operating and laughed when I asked who would be cutting me open, as if it was none of my business who the surgeon was!! When i woke up on the ward, it was about 6pm on wednesday. Due to the effects of the internal bleeding from the ectopic and then being nil by mouth i had not eaten or drunk for 36 hours, had been vomiting and had diarrhoea, had an operation and lost a baby and the nurse told me she was TOO BUSY to bring me cup of water. it was one of the most awful and disgusting experiences of my life. Morale in the NHS is low I know but they only saved my life because I am outspoken and demanded to see someone to decide if I needed surgery before I bled to death. Only the consultant, a few nurses and the surgeon were human beings, the rest of them were vile.
