Another appointment in ophthalmology and another long wait to see the doctor. Firstly let me say the staff are delightful and professional, they are doing good work within an antiquated processing handling system that is not patient friendly. Why was my wife called in at about 11.00 but not seen by the doctor until 12.35? She had completed the usual vision test and retinal scan by 11.25. Because more than one nurse was doing vision testing this caused the queue to grow faster than the scanner and then the doctor can handle. This left an hour and ten minutes to wait. The doctor gave the standard excuse that the department was very busy. We had never seen it quieter! We were in a long queue of patients who had all been called in too early so that we all had to wait unnecessarily long for the doctor. The retinal scanning machine remained unused from 12.00 midday. I suggest that the whole processing system for this clinic be reviewed with a goal of reducing the amount of time patients spend in the department.
"Not such a good day"
