Having visited an exhibition in 2015 I was approached by a representative of Prostate Cancer UK who suggested that "as a man of a certain age - 65" I should have a PSA test, not having any symptoms of cancer I had what I thought would be a routine check up, HOW WRONG I WAS !!!
PSA @ 4.7, very low but further tests revealed I had prostate cancer - wallop !!!
This in turn brought me to the Radiotherapy department of the Weston Park Hospital, I am pleased to say that from start to finish of my 20+ visits I found this to be an amazing place, this is the most unhospital hospital I have ever visited, from the helpful car park attendants trying to find you a space in the very limited spaces available (be advised if you are in the 9.00am to 3.00pm slots give yourself plenty of time to get parked) the staff on the radiotherapy reception will greet you with a warm smile and have a very sympathetic way of understanding why you are there, the senior medical staff who will give you information and advice on your journey through treatment and the amazing, caring, professional and friendly radiotherapists who deliver the very best of treatment.
We so often hear of the NHS in crisis, perhaps a number of those who preach this should come to Weston Park to see how it's done.
Well done Weston Park and thank you to the person from Prostate Cancer UK who took the time and trouble to talk to me initially, I owe you a massive thank you
Kind regards
George Norton
