My brother's main carer is my 78 year old mother. He was admitted to Gartnavel Hospital, Ward 1c Opthalmology on Thursday and treated with the utmost of respect, care and understanding. As a family, we were all respected. Shifts were taken amongst the sisters and mum to stay with him as he was scared to be left alone. He felt vulnerable and insecure in an unusual environment, but within a short period of time, he settled and was feeling safe and secure and this could not have happened without the EXCEPTIONAL CARE, LOVE and UNDERSTANDING displayed by the whole team on Ward 1c.
He wasn't treated as a patient with a Learning Disability, he was treated as an ordinary patient, he was treated as himself.
Words cannot express the enormity of what has been achieved during the last few days during his stay in hospital, his journey will be a difficult one but with the support he has received, we know he is in the safest of hands.
From the very bottom of my heart, thank you so, so much.
You are all amazing stars and although you may not be told often enough, you make such a difference to the lives of many people and their wider family networks.
