"Wonderful Doctors, Nurses & Staff..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

Unfortunately my Father 71, a Cirrhosis patient has been admitted to hospital 3 times now. Each time as a medical emergency where he had bleeding varices, which in itself carries a high mortality rate.

Fortunately he was in the care of the wonderful, skillful, professional team in Ward 11, QE2.

I live nearly 400 miles away however the staff have gone above and beyond to not only make sure my father is still alive but to keep me abreast of his care every time there has been any treatment etc.

For people who have family or friends with ALD it is understood how difficult it can be to work with the patients. I have the utmost respect for the caregivers and professionals.

Although all of the staff are equally marvelous there is a notable thank you I must give and that is to the person I spoke to who arranged my dads care. Due to a previous issue with the NE Ambulance control room and their triage system, whereby my dad waited nearly 6 hours for an ambulance whilst bleeding internally.

I decided to call ahead to ward 11 after calling the ambulance (from Sussex) this time to advise them of my concerns and I spoke with this member of staff. They not only called the Ambulance control room to advise them how urgent it was, but called me back and then put through directly to NEAS, something I cant do from Sussex,

All of the staff saved my Dad's life... Again. But the person I spoke to helped made sure he got to hospital quickly, still alive in order to treat him.

My Dad is being released this morning, he is actually disappointed, he knows the nurses really make a fuss. I mean who doesnt want to leave hospital??? I think that speaks volumes.

Hopefully he wont be back in the nicest sense but if he is I can be assured he is in the best hands.

Thank you Ward 11...

Erick Jnr...
