admin staff, nurses and consultants start communicating to each other and to patients.

Anything else?

I was referred to a dermatologist from my GP after 2 years of second line medication that was not working. After a consultation, I took a blood test and after another consult, I was advised there was a problem with my liver and needed to make another appt in 3 months to monitor. Booked appt with consultant for second week in Dec ('08).

Got a call a week before the appt asking to change for that week - but needed blood test done before and admin staff were not aware. If i couldnt make the time slots available, I would have to wait until january and felt pressured to get it done and decided to take leave from work on short notice.

When I eventually had the third appt, I was prescribed another second line drug and then referred to a gastroenterologist to investigate the liver abnormalities. There was something that made me concerned due to the appearance and profesionalism of the

dermatologist, so i inventigated the mediaction I was perscribed, and discovered one of the side effects can cause strain on the liver! I didnt fill the prescription and asked to see another dermatologist once i had seen the gastro, and for my file to be transferred.

End of Jan i saw the gastro and asked to take a blood test which would focus more on the liver functions and an ultra sound.

When I booked the ultrasound, i was not told i had to fast, so had to go again. When waiting to take the blood test, i advised the admin staff i had a needle phobia and have previously had bad experiences, i was reassured each of the two nurses who would take blood were highly experienced. After a 40 minute wait, to my horror, the nurse who was asking all the questions and clearly inexperienced was assigned to me.

Then end of Jan, I booked the follow up appointment with the gastro who had asked for the ultra sound and blood test. 50 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start (yesterday), it turns out they had booked the dermatologist!
