"I cannot praise the emergency NHS 24 service enough"

I cannot praise the emergency NHS 24 service in the Scottish Borders enough, I had extreme dental pain recently and needed to see a dentist over the weekend period, I was seen well within the 12 hour period it was suggested it could take to see a dentist, both the dentist on call at the hospital and the dental nurses could not have been more caring and understanding. The appointment resulted in me needing an extraction and again the dentist was so kind and patient with me, he listened to my concerns regarding receiving dental treatment and explained clearly the options available to me. I called the emergency dental helpline within 3 hours of having the extraction as the pain was unbearable and the dental nurse was so understanding given that I was in so much pain, she advised me how much pain relief I could appropriately take and made an appointment to see the emergency dentist again the following day but did offer me a quicker appointment which would have meant a bit of travelling - 25 miles away, but it was offered which was very reassuring. I cancelled the 2nd appointment as my pain was more manageable but to know another appointment had been made available for me was reassuring. The service was just great, not only do NHS doctors and nurses do a wonderful job but I wanted to say what a wonderful job NHS dentists and dental nursed do as well.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience on Patient Opinion. I know that dental pain can be extremely debilitating and I was sorry to learn that you had to have your tooth extracted. I do wish you well and hope that you make a fully speedy recovery.

Here at NHS 24 a positive patient/caller experience is what our dedicated staff strive to achieve at all times. We work very closely with our partner Health Boards to ensure that patients receive the required care in a timely manner. Your story is an excellent example of this.

Here at NHS 24 we have a number of dedicated Dental Nurses who are available to provide support, advice and onward referral for patients, where appropriate. I am very pleased to read your positive comments in relation to your experience. We do always try to ensure that positive feedback is shared with staff members as we feel it is hugely important that they get to see such heartfelt thanks from patients.
