About: University Hospital Monklands / Dermatology

(as the patient),

In Feb2017 after seeing a Dermatology Consultant regarding skin damage I was offered outpatient intense treatment at hospital over a period of days with potent treatment which I gratefully appreciated. I began attending the Dermatology Unit at the hospital and began the treatment with the Nurses and even after the first day of the potent treatment, after over months of condition getting worse until the pill I was having allergic reaction was stopped, where I had noticed the condition had not got worse.

I noticed because I was in the hands of professionals administering the treatment an immediate change and to me this continued the four days I attended the unit. Unfortunately I had to stop, because of a culmination of problems of getting to the unit which had affected my other health problems. I have kept in touch with the Nurses of the unit and continued treatment at home with continued improvement. Even although I am just a patient I can look at the Dermatology Unit objectively and simply thank them by taking a tin of biscuits over to them in appreciation to their first class friendly attention.

I think it is more beneficial to Thank the Consultant and the all the Nurses who attended to me and other patients worse off than me also attending the unit for treatment. I learned just how important how much our skin is to our body that previously I had never thought much about.

I was very disturbed to learn that the Dermatology Ward had been closed down and I believe the Doctors and Nurses worked mainly from this unit with patients who needed inpatient treatment going to general medical wards. These Doctors and Nurses must treat thousands of patients a year and whilst I appreciate the NHS are under severe pressure to provide I think it is short sighted that such a Specialist Ward within the hospital was closed.

I know if I had been able to be admitted to this Ward I would have had the treatment over the 7 days that I could not complete because of the culmination of problems which affected my other health problems and stopped me from attending because I became.

I would like to thank the Consultant and all the Nurses of the Dermatology Unit for their first class friendly treatment in this small Specialist Unit.

Dear Hughie

Many thanks for your posting on Patient Opinion.

This is a really good example of how we can make a difference to our patient’s experience. The Dermatology staff will be absolutely delighted with your feedback and as the Senior Nurse for the service, I will ensure that staff are aware of your post. This is the person centred approach we strive to deliver every day, every time to every patient and to know that your experience reflects this is fantastic feedback for the whole team.

At Monklands Hospital we continue to deliver Dermatology inpatient care within a dedicated ward and we have also developed an Ambulatory Care Unit to deliver intensive Dermatology treatments as a day case. To date, we have received very positive feedback about this new service.

I hope you are feeling better and thank you again for your kind posting.

Kind regards

Eileen

Dear Ms Eileen Clarke,

I am pleased to here your response as having dealt with different hospitals for many years I have witnessed how the dedicated front line staff have dealt with many patients whilst working under the pressures put on by NHS restrictions. The Nurses in your Unit deserve to thanked for the way they deal in a friendly caring manner, and senior management should note this. Thanks to them the problem which had been bothering me for previous months is now improving.

Best Wishes.
