"There is a reason for this pain"

About: Hospital For Tropical Diseases University College Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I have been suffering from extreme lower abdomen pain for about a week now. I was also being followed up for a urinary tract infection that grew Enterococcus faecalis and have been treated with 2 courses of antibiotics, in total of 15 days and 2 IV shots of antibiotics. I still remained symptomatic. At my follow up at the 'Hospital for Tropical Diseases' I was examined by a doctor who was concerned by level of pain in my abdomen and referred me to UCH to see a gynaecologist. I was admitted to hospital and had a internal ultrasound the next morning. This ultrasound came up clear suggesting no gynaecological problems. I was discharged as 'no gynaecological cause' was found for the pain. However, I was still suffering immensely. The doctor who performed my ultrasound explained that pain in the lower right abdomen could be an issue with the appendix or even with my bowels. Being discharged simply because the department I was admitted to found nothing was not a way to treat me as a patient.

I am now awaiting the possibility of having some more scans, preferably CT to figure out what is causing me such immense pain. I know my body better than anyone else and there is a reason for this pain. I at least expected a transfer to another department if it was not a gynaecological issue, but I feel it is unfair when doctors look at me as if I am exaggerating my level of pain. Trust me, I'm young and there are much better things I would rather be doing than sitting in a hospital for hours.
