"Fantastic care for my grandma in the stroke unit"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My Grandma was admitted for the 2nd time in the space of couple of months just after Christmas. This Stroke was much more severe and she has been an inpatient on the Stroke Unit for nearly 6 weeks.

I cannot express in words here the sheer hard work, compassion, caring nature that each and every single staff member on the Unit showed to her. From the Ward Clerks and Housekeepers who would stop and chat to the Healthcare Assistants who went above and beyond not only for Grandma for the other patients in the bay.

The nurses were so friendly and approachable that you felt you could ask them anything without fear of interrupting their busy days. Although it was clear to see the staff were extremely busy they all had smiles on their faces which made the world of difference. I saw Staff Nurses helping patients with their dinners and providing basic fundamental care.

There is no doubt the care my Grandma received from the whole team, therapy staff and Doctors was fantastic and will be a hard act to follow now she is in a rehab facility. They really do deserve recognition not just for doing their job but for going above and beyond and I hope Senior Managers in the organisation are made aware of this as its so important the front line staff are praised and thanked.

Thank you for this kind feedback about our Stroke Unit, it is such a pleasure to read positive feedback like this, and we want to thank you for taking the time to write this review as it really gives our staff a morale boost during pressurised times.

This story has been printed out and shared around the Stroke Unit so all the staff members are aware what a positive difference they made to your Grandmother and families experience.

We share stories from this website in our monthly patient experience report which is viewed by senior managers and executive directors across the Trust, they will be made aware of the dedicated, compassionate and supportive actions the Stroke Unit staff demonstrate daily to their patients and relatives.

We also have a monthly patient stories programme where we play recorded interviews with patients and relatives to the Trust Board and to the teams involved to raise awareness of their roles and let them know their hard work isn't going unnoticed. If you would be interested in doing this, please can you contact me directly on 01253 955520 or email me at Eleanor.Walsh@bfwhospitals.nhs.uk.

Thank you again for this lovely feedback and we wish you and your Grandmother all the best for the future.

Kind regards

Eleanor Walsh
