"A Football Tournament can build self-esteem and improve confidence"

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Northfield

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I want to make a suggestion as I love playing football a lot. It would be nice if we could organise a tournament for St Andrew's, may be we could go to the gym in Northampton as it is bigger. The OTs would be happy to help so please can we organise a tournament between the sites. Each site could get their own football strip and patients who all have leave could participate with the staff being in the teams too.

Playing in teams helps with self-esteem, participating, building confidence and learning how to work in a team, all of these things will help us when we get out.

Being able to go on day trips would also be good, again people who all have leave could go on trips together to places like Cadbury world. More things with music and patients getting together for the social aspect helps us mix better and learn how to get on with people.

If we could arrange the football teams and a tournament this would be a big improvement.

This is an absolutely brilliant suggestion. Since reading it, I have discussed this with the Events Coordinator, and OT lead and we are actively looking to set this up with staff in Northampton. There may also be options for engagement in more local football tournaments.
