"Massive shortage of spaces"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital / General surgery

(as a staff member),

There is a massive shortage of spaces at this hospital, even more so now that emergency hospital has opened and staff have to travel between sites. The trusts have sold land for housing that staff were in desperate need of for parking.

Staff are fined when they spend an unreasonable amount of time trying to find a spot to park and end up having to dump the car on a grass verge or on some double yellow lines so that they can get in to work and carry out their job.

Nothing is being done despite complaints, we are told to park in a car park 10/15 minutes walk away? but only at certain times of the day, otherwise the car park will be shut.

This problem has been going on far too long.

Dear Unknown,

I'm genuinely sorry for your frustration and that you have had to resort to posting an anonymous review on an external website.

We are trying to find a solution for parking that meets the needs of patients and families, doesn't inconvenience or disadvantage staff, but also, with limited resources, protects income and avoids us having to make cost improvements in other areas. Not easy!

Please get in touch so that I can understand more about your situation / which hospital site etc and discuss options with Steve Bannister, director of estates and facilities. My email is Annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk

Annie
