"On my grandad's ward"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Respiratory Medicine (Wards 2, 6,7 10 & 16)

(as a relative),

My grandad aged 81 was admitted to the royal infirmary glasgow 3 with pneumonia. The nurses were really nice however I found the shortage of staff was unbelievable and this had me in fear for my grandads health and also safety. Concerns for his safety came to my attention when he witnessed a patient suffering from dementia punch another patient in the face.

I understand that there is 5 dementia patients and also 14 other sick patients on the ward. This ward is being staffed by only 2 nurses and an exiliary nurse. I think this is a completely unacceptable level of care.

Dear SCAMSI01

Thank you for taking the time to post on patient opinion and please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your post.

I am sorry to hear that your Grandad had to be admitted to hospital with pneumonia.

I would like to assure you that patient safety is our absolute highest priority. I will share your comments with the General Manager and ask that they come back here with a reply to the issues you have raised.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear SCAMSI01

Regarding my earlier post, can you please contact me at Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with your Grandad’s personal details and the ward which he was in so that we can look into this further?

Many thanks

Nicole

Dear SCAMSI01

I just wanted to follow up my earlier reply to your post – I’d suggested that you could get in touch with me so we can look more specifically into your Grandad's experience, and although I haven’t heard back from you, I felt it was important to reassure you that your feedback has been used in some way to help us improve our services. All of the feedback we receive is sent on to our Senior Management Teams and we regularly look at the themes that are coming out of what people are telling us to help us to focus on what we need to improve on. We are committed to making sure that all of our patients and their families are given the opportunity to tell us what was good about their time in our care, as well as what we could do better.

Best wishes

Nicole
