My name is John. I am 58. Until this year I never had a day's illness in my life. Then I was diagnosed with bowel cancer.

I am a very lucky man. First to have the tumour spotted at a very early stage and second to receive prompt treatment by an amazing team of people at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy – colonoscopy, CT and MRI scans, then surgery.

Throughout, I received advice and support from the bowel cancer specialist nurses and following surgery I was cared for in the High Dependency Unit. Everyone I met was kind and caring and hugely professional.

I can't thank you enough and I am full of awe and admiration for all of you

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience of having been diagnosed with bowel cancer; this must have been a big shock for you, having never had a day's illness in your life.

It was good to hear that you received prompt treatment and also to hear that staff, across a range of professions were kind, caring and professional in their approach.

It will give me much pleasure to share your post with staff so that they can see the impact of what they do every day! We can sometimes take this for granted; however a post like yours helps us to stop and reflect on all the good that is going on and re iterate that to staff.
