"Inguinal hernia day case surgery"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

Very smooth reception at the day surgery unit having had pre-op assessment some weeks ago. Woke up feeling good under 2 hours after being taken to theatre.

Intrigued that the same questions are asked at least three times on the day - said to be borrowed from aircraft safety practice. Of course, all of the same had been asked at the pre-op assessment - not a short engagement. Is there sound evidence for that rather tedious sequence?

All staff introduced themselves.

The one criticism - was advised of potential complications but no bespoke literature given to me about recovery and rehabilitation.

Dear Aldroyd

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch and leave such lovely feedback about your recent experience.

I understand your frustration about the number of times we ask patients the same questions prior to a procedure or surgery being carried out, the reason we do this is to ensure patient safety, this is a process that is used throughout NHS Scotland. Following research carried out by the World Health Organisation, there is evidence that supports the importance of this safety measure.

You mention in your posting the lack of bespoke literature, I wonder if you could possibly contact me to discuss this further, you can contact me on email p.marland@nhs.net or alternatively you can call me on 01324 566523

I have shared your feedback with the team, who were very grateful for your kind words and pass on their thanks..

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards
