My husband was suffering from pain in his eye and it had started to swell. Rather than go to A&E I decided to ring 111 to get some advice and in particular if there was an eye clinic that would be the best option. The operator asked a few questions then advised a visit to A&E. This was Monday morning so very busy traffic. I drove to the Norrhern General Hospital and was informed by A&E that it would be better to go direct to the emergency eye clinic at the Royal Hallamshire hospital. Obviously this took another significant period of travelling time and struggle with more parking. My husband was suffering all this time including light sensitivity. This could have been avoided had 111 advised appropriately.
