"Their hard work is a credit to the NHS"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Vascular Surgery (Ward 8)

(as the patient),

If you ever find yourself in the position of being taken into ward 8 at Hairmyres, then you can be assured of genuine caring and companionable helpful nursing staff

And that means all the staff. I have just been in for 6 days and have yet to find a staff member who isn't caring, helpful, understanding but most important dedicated. Big thanks to all the staff that have looked after me at my worst time. I have only 1 complaint and this is for management. If I won't to complain then there is information everywhere but if I won't to compliment then I need to hunt lots off places to try find the information ℹ need. Please makes access to information easier to find so staff can be recognised for the excellent work they do. P. s all the staff in ward 8 should be commended and recognised for their hard work a credit to the NHS.

Dear Kennyp,

Thank you for your kind words regarding our dedicated staff, I'm delighted you found everyone to be genuine, caring and compassionate.

I'll be passing your post onto the Senior Charge nurse who will share with everyone who is involved with patient care in her area which I'm sure includes a few members of the multidisciplinary team.

It's comments like your posting which help us make changes, I had no idea that we were not promoting the Compliment feedback aspect as clearly for patients, and relatives.

We have ongoing projects and work across the Hospital to help promote the Person Centered Care we currently provide and this includes patient & service user feedback.

We use different mediums to ensure compliments are escalated and counted, these include our Patient Affairs department which deal with both complaints and compliments, and use of this Patient Opinion website. We have ongoing test areas which initiate a post discharge conversation with patients to highlight both the positive aspects of their stay and the areas we could do better in.

We also use Patient feedback cards 'We are Listening' which allow anyone to comment on any faction of our care and Hospital services. I will ask the Senior Charge Nurse to ensure everyone has access to these cards. Along with this we will have a greater promotion of these cards throughout the patient journey and add them to their discharge packs.

With these changes we would hope to help promote different mediums of patient feedback to encompass both those comfortable with electronic and written formats.

Thank you again for your valuable comments and I hope you are recovering well at home.

Kind Regards

Gwen
