"It deeply saddens me to spoil the reputation of the Dirrans"

About: Dirrans Centre (including rehab)

(as a service user),

I greatly appreciate the service I am receiving from the Dirrans centre and their excellent staff, but for the past weeks I have had to put up with racist and offensive views and foul language at the centre. I feel this sort of behaviour has no place in the Dirrans. It deeply saddens me to spoil the reputation of the Dirrans but I firmly believe this does not belong in the centre. I do feel I still I greatly benefit from my time at the Dirrans but this is spoiling the experience for myself and possibly others.

Thanks so much for getting in touch. I am sorry you feel that you do not feel comfortable in the environment lately and agree that this type of behaviour is not acceptable.

I will forward your comments to the Unit Manager for further investigation, who will come back to you as soon as possible

You are absolutely right that such behaviour has no place whatsoever in the Dirrans Centre or anywhere else for that matter.

Sometimes people who attend the centre may, for various reasons, have complex behavioural issues and express views and comments without appreciating that this may be offensive to others.

I can assure you however that these behaviours are never allowed to go unchallenged and are dealt with by our specially trained staff as quickly as possibly

Our excellent reputation exists, not least, because of the close rapport which our staff have built up with service users who know that they can come to us with anything that is troubling them. Our approach to everything in the centre is based upon mutual respect, support, understanding and tolerance.

I would be more than happy to discuss this further with you personally.
